Tough day at work today with the wind rustling the trees and mate Peter Cutts going to one of my favourite spots- Point Clear. Lucky for me the job I am on finishes fairly early and I can be back in Felixstowe by 3:30:) I check The Dip first but the wind is wsw which is offshore, The Fludgers is a popular holiday beach so it was The Manor for me which was good as Al Wiz was already on the water so I had some company which was good in the increasing winds. Even at The Manor to start with the wind was slightly off which made sail choice a bit of guess work. I went with my Lightning 6.5 and 133 and soon discovered that I had a metre too much sail!!!! and the sea was big and you were sailing right into it. I original plan was too try for a hour but it was way too windy and rough for that! I still sailed out the mile and a half to the Wadgate Post trying a few really broad runs en-route and going for some scary mile runs coming back in!!! Ian Clarke came down and rigged 6.2 but soon realised that was way too big and changed to 5.3 and had a good sail, as did David Coles who started on his formula board with 9.5 but changed to his unused 6.2 for a full-on slalom session:) Perhaps I should have changed down but with limited time on a after work session I stuck with the big sail and had some fun in the warm sunshine:) I managed 5 mile runs over 20 kts, a 28 kt peak and a 18 kt alpha, not bad on big kit in a big sea, I did have one big crash banging my leg, jarring my back and losing my lovely Quicksilver sunglasses :( So a good couple of full on hours!
